Worth knowing about the city of Ploen

The city of Ploen today is a modern district town with about 12.000 inhabitants, the infrastructure of which is shaped by administration, smaller and middle sized industrial enterprises and, primarily, by the tourism. Ploen charms through its outstanding location between the Big Ploen Lake, which is, with its 30km² the largest in the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein, and a flat stretch of lakes in the north right in the middle of the nature park Holsteinische Schweiz.

The city covers 3,593 hectares, however 2,813 hectares of which consisting of open water. In the city itself actually there are 11 lakes, with another five lakes neighbouring.

The city of Ploen is located at the junction of the federal highways B 76 (east - west) and B 430 (southwest - northeast). Furthermore Ploen is attached to the bus networks of “VKP” and “Autokraft” and also to the railway system of the German “Deutsche Bahn”. From here connections exist to Kiel and Luebeck once every hour.
